Finally our first 5 pairs final win against Connaught A in what has been a fantastic week for the club and one Connaught A will want to forget as they have been beaten twice in a week by Wymondham. Looking for a vast improvement on last years final where Connaught A totally outplayed us, it was Wymondham who fought harder and got the well deserved result to what looks like a league and 5 pairs double. Sylvia and Brian got Wymondham off to a great start and if Sylvia had found her weight more often the result could of been more one sided. Brian played well again at skip and when looking in danger got Wymondham out of it, both played slightly better than Dianne and Bill. Second pairing of Shirley and Deb likewise played well to contain the strong pairing of Christine and Sylvia who blew away our chances last season. But only losing by 1 kept Wymondham in the lead which was crucial with Connaught's young stars Lee and Ollie up next. But Pat and Steve also contained their match well after falling 4-0 behind after three ends but Wymondham clawed their way back and then lead 7-5 after eight ends. A two and a single meant Connaught took that game but still failed to take the lead overall in the match as the final reached half time with Wymondham holding a three point lead at 23-20 after thirty ends. But Connaught A soon fought back after the break with a 6-10 win for Derek and Shelia against Mark and Peter who both had steady games. Although starting off well with a 3-1 lead Wymondham then dropped two three's where Shelia was at her deadliest but she will be disappointed with the amount of short woods she had along with most other players tonight who had the same trouble. But the result was not disastrous as Connaught only held a slender one shot lead at 29-30 going into the final game, which was soon wrapped up by Wymondham's Melvyn and Blazer with a 9-6 win against Mike and Ray. Picking up two's on the first two ends made the Wymondham pair more relaxed who's lead was extended to 8-3 with just three ends left. Mike at lead for Connaught had a consistent game but Ray just wasn't on the same level as Blazer who felt more in control of the game who eventually celebrated with the rest of his team who were in raptures after the match, well played both teams who made a great final!
Also a big thanks to Watton for hosting the final and the providing the refreshments.

Semi-final.
Watton 42 v Wymondham 45 @ Banham 7pm - 10-02-10
M. Fisher and B. Saunders 8-7 against B. Dibble and M. Hunter
M. Barker and P. King 9-13 against I. Bebee and R. Harvey
P. Saunders and S. Phillips 14-4 against P. and T. Crockett
S. Archer and M. Linsdell 6-9 against D. Quadling and J. Hunter
S. Foster and D. Phillips 8-9 against Di. Quadling and D. Braham
A great result for Wymondham against stubborn opponents Watton. With the loss of Chris "The Blazer" Mann through illness Watton might of fancied there chances even more but the strength and depth Wymondham now hold meant they squeezed through. After the second session Watton held a slender three shot lead but the pair that did the damage at Yaxham did the same to Watton as Pat and Steve comfortably beat Pam and Terry 14-4 for a seven shot lead at the interval. The last two pairs played well to see the tie out. They will now face Connaught "A" in a repeat of last season's final as they beat there B team team 49-32 for more info about that match click here.
Quarter final.
Yaxham 32 v Wymondham 53 -1st leg - 01/12/09
P. Saunders and S. Phillips won 14-6 against R. Harris
M. Barker and B. Saunders lost 6-9 against O. Secker
M. Linsdell and P. King won 12-8 against M. Meachen
S. Archrer and D. Phillips won 15-3.
T. Emms and C. Mann drew 6-6 against J. Turner
Wymondham have recenlty found some form at Yaxham after years of struggling to get results there and again the away side had another pleasing performance. But the result was a mixture of Yaxham's top players not playing well on the night and Wymondham capitalizing on this and playing well themselves. The first match saw Pat Saunders having chalker after chalker and Steve playing good shots meant Yaxham only scored on two of the ten ends in the first match. A couple of fours picked up in Peter and Mark's game also boded for a solid win. Sylvia and Deb had the biggest win against Yaxham's weakest pair which clinched the the big 21 points margin. This was enough for captain John Turner to concede the away leg knowing it would be an almighty task to take back the 21 shots required at Wymondham. If this sort of performance can be repeated in the league in January then Wymondham are sure to take points off them again.
