29/03/09 - Wayland 2 v Wymondham 8
Wymondham travelled to Wayland where they got a much better result than the last time they visisted. All triples played very well but J. Frary was yet again on form against C. Mann's triple who found themselves starring down the barrell after 10 ends with a score line of 17-0. After numerous combinations then then amazingly scored 15 shots on the last 8 ends to finish up only going down 19-15. This was anoher pleasing performance, but Wymondham know they have to do better elsewhere if they are ever going to make a stake on the top two.
25/03/09 - Banham 8 v Wymondham 2
Wymondham travelled to Banham where they yet again failed to get a result as they went down 2-8 on points. Most of the matches were quite close and the only win came from D. Durrant, T Emms and S. Phillips with a win of 21-12. C. Mann's block lost to T. Blackburns triple, D. Phillips' block lost to J. Blackburns triple and B. Saunders block lost to B. Francis' triple.
22/03/09 - Wymondham 2 v Connaught "A" 8
Wymondham lost there most crucial game of the season going down 2-8 on points to Connaught "A". This was a chance for Wymondham to end up in 2nd place in the Breckland league for the first time if they were to beat Connaught 6-4 or better and win there two remaining matches. But they never game themselves that chance, as Connaught were up for battle and emerged victourous and no doubt relieved that they will still be in the top two of the league. They will be hoping that Connaught "B" can take at least 5 points off Yaxham on tuesday to make them Champions, but this looks unlikely as they have only conceaded 4 points all season at home and they were against Wymondham! Wymondham lacked sterngth and depth as Chris Mann was away at the south-east regions rinks at Cambridge and A and S Wood were on holiday. But hopefully the next two games will be much more posistive in preparation for the summer league.
17/03/09 - Yaxham 6 v Wymondham 4
Wymondham have yet again proved that they are a match for any side as they are only club to of taken any points at Yaxham this season losing out 6-4 on points and 68-61 on shots.
The first session was a dissapointing one, as on mat 1 S. Archer, S. Foster and D. Phillips went down 20-13 to R. Harris' block. The triple got off to a bad start and never really recovered as they found themselves 9-1 down after 6 ends. They did get within four shots on end 13 at 16-12 but with ends running out they never clawed the shots back. Russell played some good shots when they found themseves 3 or 4 down on some ends, often calling on his drawing capabilities which were spot on. On mat 2 M. Taylor, T. Emms and J Li Rocchi also went down 20-12 to D. Cross' block. This match at the start looked favourible towards the Wymondham triple as after end six they were 9-5 up, but then disaster struck as they then failed to score on the next 9 out of 12 ends left. Overall the Yaxham triple stepped up there game as the match wore on and deserved the victory.
Second session saw Captain and vice captain take four valubale points for there team as on mat 1 M. Hallam, P L King and S. Phillips beat O. Secker's block 17-13. The Wymondham triple settled more quickly and dominated the first half of the match with the score 13-2 after 10 ends. It's a good job they did as Yaxham picked up a 4 on end 12, a 2 on 15 and a 3 on 18. This was a pleasing performance as they all played well against there opposite numbers respectively. On mat 2 M. Fisher, B. Saunders and C. Mann had the daughnting task of taking on J. Turner's block. Mann's triple got off to poor start going down 6-0 after 3 ends, but then after that Yaxham's lead was struggling to reach the jack which meant Mary could take advantage and did so on most occasions. Brian at 2 steadied most ends against Chrissie turner, who also did not have her best game. Mann played well against John and will be pleased with how well his block played. This was aslo Mann's first win at Yaxham in five attempts.
This was a much needed four points going into sundays match and still keeps Wymondham in the hunt for at least 2nd place. This was the first time in over three seasons that Wymondham have picked up any points at Yaxham and this was the time to do it. Well done all!
15/02/09- Wymondham 10 v Watton 0
Wymondham knew last season Watton dashed all there hopes of making a stake on the top two in the league when they beat them 7-3 away, but this season Wymondham made no mistakes. The first session saw a pretty dominante display from the home side. On mat 1 the solid triple of S. Archer, S. Foster and D. Phillips came through a sticky start, to then see them pick up a maximum on end six to see them comfortably win 24-13 against R. Harvey's triple. On mat 2 M. Taylor, J Li-Rocchi and C. Mann flew into a 21-0 after nine ends. The Watton triple swapped after eight ends and this certainally changed the complextion of the game as the Watton triple started to pick up points as the game ended in a convincing 31-9 win for the home side.
Second session on mat 1 saw D. Durrant, T. Emms and S. Phillips struggle to get a chokehold on a game than looked easier to win than lose. The Watton triple of J. Clarke, Di Quadling and B. Dibble did well to cope with the dangers that the Wymondham triple gave them. But yet again Captain S. phillips was pulling up short and decided for the second game in a row to swap round with T. Emms. This payed dividence as towards the end Phillips was able to play forcing woods which produced five shots in three ends to make the score 12-9 after fourteen ends. But this still made the game nervy, and with Emms playing heavy woods that he had no need to make, made the score 13-11 going into the last end. As the Watton triple were holding just one, Emms with his first wood yet again played with weight and knocked the jack back so that Watton now held two, luckily Emms made no mistake with his last wood creating shot wood to make the final result 14-11. On mat two S. Wood, P L King and A. Wood hit the groung running and never realy stopped as they racked up an impressive 29-7 win against J. Hunter's triple. This was even more impressive as S. and A. Wood had not been playing for several games.
Back to back home wins for Wymondham and now seen them briefly go top of the Breckland league by 1 point, but with them playing a game more. This yet again shows Wymondham's doninance at home and hope this continues as there next vistor's are Connaught "A" on March 22nd which could prove vital in the title race.
08/02/09 - Wymondham 10 v Harling Rec. 0
After the dissapointment at Forncett, Harling felt the full force of a Wymondham side that knew 10 points was crucial if they were going to make any impact on keeping up with Yaxham and Connaught "A"for the title. The first session saw the young triple of M. Linsdall, J. Sparham and C. Mann against B. Barsby, A. Snelling and P. Lee. The young triple started slow but never gave away more than one shot, as Harling's lead and two stuggled to find the lines and weight on the mat at times, as skip Lee played mostly heavy shots which didn't always come off but cut down several shots. End 12 was the pivotal end where Mann's awareness saw him play out the only Harling wood in the head to get a maximum of 6 out of it. This then made the score 15-4 and with them only conceding 5 ends made the score 22-5 at the end. On the other mat M. Hallam, P L King and B. Saunders got off to a good start as after three ends they were 6-0 up against R. Buffery, G. Harbour and R. Buffery. The Harling triple never really threatened as skip B. Saunders limited them scoring only a maximum of nine shots over seven ends as the score finished 17-9.
Second session saw two different games as M. Taylor, T. Emms and S. Phillips found themeselves 7-0 down after 5 ends against B. Potter, J. Court and R. Meek. Captain S. Phillips was really struggling to find his weight and this lead him to change round after the dreadful start they had made. This really worked in there favour as Harling failed to score in the next six ends as Phillips then found his weight and manged to make things happen. Succesive 3's on ends 8,9,10 and 11 saw the game turn on it's head with a 14-7 lead after eleven ends. Meek had some rough luck on these ends as every time he hit the jack it always went against him. The end result of 22-10 did not really reflect the game but the Wymondham triple will be relieved that it did. The other mat saw the familiar triple of S. Archer, S. Foster and D. Phillips back to winning ways at home with a comfortable 31-11 win over E. Jones, T. Hewitson and B. Knappett. The first three ends saw the Wymondham triple fly into a 9-0 lead and with them picking up a maximum on end 6 saw there lead extended to 15-1. But Harling fought back and with some strong heads found themselves pick up 3's on ends 7 and 11 to make the score 18-8 after 11 ends. But towards the end more preasure was applied from the Wymondham triple and saw back to back 5's picked up on ends 16 and 17 to cap off a good afternoon of bowling for the home side. The end result was 10-0 and 92-35 on shots.
05/02/09 - Forncett 6 v Wymondham 4
Wymondham have for the first time this season tasted deafeat away at the hands of Forncett going down 6-4 and 64-56 on shots. The first session saw a dissapointing display from Wymondham as Captain S. Phillips was down 15-2 by 10 ends against the strong block of M. Jones, J. Rumsby and D. Rumsby. P. Saunders was playing well at 2, but not getting the luck she deserved at times. But after swapping places saw a revival in the second half winning 5 of the remaining 8 ends to finish up 11-18 down with M. Fisher playing as skip towards the end.
Vice captain C. Mann had an equally dissapointing game but could find no reply for his opposite number, T. Ottewell who has a superb game at skip. After 7 ends the score was quite close with them only 2 behind at 7-9 but could not pick up any more shots for the next 6 ends, as they were then 7-19 down. Skip Ottewell proberbly had one of his best games of the season, as his drawing woods were perfect cutting out one or more shots on most ends when Wymondham looked like scoring. Even Mann changing places with J. Li-Rocchi couldn't stop the rot as they finnaly went down 12-22.
Second session saw a revival from Wymondham as M. Hallam, B. Saunders and P L King had a very close game eventually edging out 13-9 winners against R. Humphreys, M. Boulter and M. Humphreys. With every player all having good woods at times this made for a very close game. P L King had a very good game as skip and cut out many shots at times where the Forncett triple looked like taking a foot hold in the game. M. Hallam and B. Saunders always had woods in the head and kept the game close. But the last four ends were all Wymondham's as they won a very "nip and tuck" game. The other game had M. Taylor replace S. Archer as lead, as she had other commitments, with S. Foster and D. Phillips. On the third end the Wymondham triple dropped a five, this gave them a wake up call as skip D. Phillips was in impressive form after that and much like other triple, M. Taylor and S. Foster always had woods in the head to use. After 12 ends they pulled it back to 12-12 and then the next four ends they were to score 5 more shots to make it 17-12 and held the lead, ending up winning 20-15.
This result yet again shows the strength and depth the squad now have with them only picking up 2 points last season, with the only win comming from C. Mann. This will give Wymondham a fighting chance of at least finishing second as they now have two home games to look forward to, starting with Harling Rec which they will be looking for 10 points against.
25-01-09 - Wymondham 8 v Carelton Rode 2
Wymondham kept up there chase with the top three with an 8-2 win at home to Carelton Rode. Skip C. Mann kept up his high scoring at home with M. Hallam and M. Fisher with a 30-4 win. T. Emms, P. Saunders and S. Phillips put in a solid 21-7 win. Second session saw a real upset with skip R. Davidson playing out of his skin at times to pull of a shock 7-18 win against the inform triple of S. Archer, S. Foster and D. Philllips. There were times in the match where the Wymondham triple looked like picking up some big shots but skip Davidson made sure the Wymondham triple scored no more than 2 shots on ends 2 and 12 to limit them only scoring on 7 of the 18 ends. As the game went on the Wymondham triple knew it wasn't going to be there day as they lost out on several close measures during the game and were holding a six on one end till the skip came down to took shot. The other triple consisting of D. Durrant, T. Emms and B. Saunders made sure there wasn't going to be even more of a shock as they cruised to a 23-5 win.
