Wymondham 8 (67) v Forncett 2 (61) - 29-03-10

Our last league match of the season resulted in Forncett pushing us all the way on all four mats as they gave us our toughest match at home this season. First session on mat 1 saw M. Barker, M. Linsdell and B. Saunders beat D. Rackham, J. Rumsby and D. Rumsby 18-17. A great start from the home side propelled them into a 12-3 lead after eight ends. But Forncett staged a comeback towards the end of the game with a three on end 13, a four on end 16 and a brace on end 17 which saw the score's tied at 17-17. With the home side holding one on the last end, Dennis with his last wood missed which sealed a tight game for Wymondham. All players had rough spells through the game which gave Forncett the chance to get back into the match.

On mat 2 M. George, P. Saunders and S. Phillips lost to M. Jones, E. Coleman and T. Ottewell 15-17. With 15 year old Mikey George making his Debut for the club he had a good game considering he had no match practice. But this in turn made the game a little harder but with nothing to play for the right decision was made for him to gain more experience and develop the young blood in the club. Pat and Steve admitted they did not play to their usual high standards, as the Forncett triple took advantage with a five on end eleven and a three on end fifteen which was enough to see them win.

Second session on mat 1 saw S. Archer, S. Foster and D. Phillips beat M. Boulter, M. Boulter and K. Humphreys 14-13. Another match that was decided on the last end which saw the Wymondham block take the lead for the first and only time. The Forncett triple played well  and with their skip having slices of luck along the way made the home side think that it was not going to be their night. But a breakthrough on end sixteen saw them pick up a four and with two singles on the last two ends saw them pinch it.

On mat 2 E. Barker, P. King and C. Mann beat R. Humphreys, M. Humphreys and P. Lock 20-14. A comfortable start for the home side saw them cruise into a 7-0 lead after six ends. But a dropped five on end twelve looked to off thrown the Wymondham block as it was all square at 10-10 but this made the home side concentrate more, with Billie again drawing better towards the end of the match, like at the start, gave a platform to build on with three 3's scored in four ends put the match out of reach with one end to go. The Forncett triple though will be blaming their skip for the three conceded on end sixteen when they were holding one which would of created a two point gap with two ends remaining but it was not be.

Forncett gave us our hardest match at home this season and they will be pleased with how well they all played but will be dissapointed with the result. For Wymondham it has been a brilliant winter and hopefully will be an even more successful summer than last season looking to improve on third place in league 1 and hopefully making the finals again at the national club championships. We would like to wish Forncett every success in the summer league this season as new arrivals.

Wymondham 10 (89) v Watton 0 (48) - 15-03-10

Another 10-0 win and our fifth in a row at home seals the Breckland title for Wymondham (with a huge shot difference) but Watton were stubborn opponents in the first session with both games only won by only a single shot.

On mat 1 E. Barker, P. King and C. Mann beat J. Walker, P. Crockett and T. Crockett 17-16 in a "nip and tuck" game. All players had good and bad patches but Wymondham just shaded it although not playing at their best.

On mat 2 M. Barker, A. Wood and B. Saunders beat J. Todd, E. Bebee and J. Hunter 19-18. The away side shot into an early 0-6 lead but the home side scored a 4 on end four but then conceded five shots in the next two ends to go 4-11 down after just six ends. June at lead for Watton had another strong performance at Wymondham and so did Watton's two and skip but the home side turned on the gas and went on to score the next five ends running in eleven shots to take control of the match at 15-11 after eleven ends. But then the Watton triple came back into it but did not do enough as just a three was scored on the last end to see them lose by one.

Second session was a completely different story as Wymondham took the match to Watton as on mat 1 M. Linsdell, S. Foster and D. Phillips swept aside D. Quadling, Di. Quadling and M. Dibble 27-6. Usually the quadling's are quite a strong pairing having bags of experience but had an "off night" as Mark, Shirl and Deb took control from the off leading 13-1 after eight ends. With Sylvia not available it was interesting to see how the triple played together but all played well in a convincing win.

On mat 2 P. Saunders, M. Fisher and S. Philips beat B. Dibble, J. Bebee and M. Hunter 26-8. A completely one sided affair after twelve ends as the away side had still failed to score as the Wymondham triple blitzed to a 25-0 lead. Pat and Mary both had solid games again and steve was doing what was needed. Watton had little luck in the twelve ends but after numerous posistional changes they finaly found one that worked as they scored nine shots in the last six ends for a more respectful score line. With just one match remaining at home to Forncett one point is all that is needed to guarantee the league which looks likely.

Connaught A 4 (58) v Wymondham 6 (70) - 08-03-10

At last our first win at Connaught A along with Forncett and Yaxham where wins have been critical in what would of been grounds in previous seasons where we would of crumbled but testament to Wymondham this season with battling performances has seen them through a brilliant season which is still not over.

After the clubs dissapointing result at Connaught B earlier in the season Wymondham got a much better result against what is still a strong Connaught A team.

The first session got off to good start with one big win which eventualy sealed overall shots. On mat 1 S. Archer, S. Foster and D. Phillips lost to D. Adcock, S. Parsons and R. Wells 14-18. A poor start from the away side cost them the match as they fell behind 1-8 after six ends as the Connaught tripled mastered the weight and line quicker. But the Wymondham triple came back strong and won the next four ends to bring the game level at 8-8 after ten ends. A period of three ends for Connaught where five shots were scored to give them a commanding 11-18 lead with just two ends remaining. But the resilient ladies battled back and with a three on end seventeen and holding a four possibly five on the penultimate end thought they had clinched at least a point but Ray with his last wood came in for second shot for a hard fought win for the home side.

On mat 2 P. Saunders, M. Fisher and S. Phillips beat G. Wilcox, D. Liles and B. Adcock 21-10. The away side cruised into an 11-1 lead after seven ends and held on for what was a convincing win. Again Pat and Mary had good games and concentrated well with Steve playing good shots when needing too. With Connaught making various posistional changes throughout the game somewhat disjointed the team and still did not improve as the crucial eleven point shot difference was maintained.

After the break on mat 1 E. Barker, P. King and C. Mann beat M. Parsons, T. Musk and S. Bragg 22-13. After a tight start for both sides it was Wymondham who got the upper hand. After end eleven the scores were tied at 9-9 but seven shots in three ends made easier viewing at 16-9. Shot selections on a couple of ends in the match were a bit questionable for Shelia where a few shots were given away when maybe going on her back hand would of been the safer option. But never the less Billie and Peter both played well at times at with Blazer putting in a good shift also helped with the crucial result.

On mat 2 M. Barker, M. Linsdell and B. Saunders lost to the talented trio of C. Musk, L. Fallows and O. Allen 12-17. Although having a bad start after four ends at 1-5 down, the away triple got themseleves back into to it and took the lead to go 8-5 ahead after ten ends. But a slight dip in form from Melvyn and Mark brought the home side back into it as they stepped it up a gear and recorded eleven shots in five ends to put them in control at 9-16 with three ends remaining. Brian had a very good game at skip and cut several shots out at times just so the shot difference would not be massively affected and with a one and two on the last two ends proved to be an OK result against Connaught's strongest triple.

This result now looks to of posistioned the club to it's first Breckland league title with this massive win tonight which now puts a six point gap between us and Connaught A who now have no hope after this result and will have to settle for second place or even third if Yaxham put in some late form. Only eleven points is now needed in our last two home games to guarantee the league title.

Banham 8 (79) v Wymondham 2 (53) - 03-03-10

Another miserable trip to Banham resulted in another 8-2 defeat but three out the four mats could of gone either way but the home side edged it on the night as Wymondham lose only there second match of the season and have still yet to register there first league win at Banham.

On mat 1 P. Saunders, M. Fisher and S. Phillips lost to V. Hambling, M. Jessup and J. Goodey 13-17. One of the Banham players described this block as their reserve side but they played well enough to cause a shock win. The Wymondham triple made a good start though going into a 6-3 lead after five ends but the lead was soon swallowed up as they found themselves trailing 6-8 after eight ends. After end ten the home side took control and took the next five ends to go 9-15 ahead and the game was seen out from there.

On mat 2 M. Barker, M. Linsdell and B. Saunders beat R. Kerrison, M. Seagar and J. Delany 16-14. This was a very tight game and after ten ends the score was tied at 9-9. All the players had bad spells and good spells but it was the away team that got the advantage going into a 13-10 lead after fourteen ends but two dropped ends saw the game tied at 14-14 going into the last end. Mark's second wood was a tad lucky as it clipped a front wood and hit the jack near dead line to go one and likewise Brian's last wood managing to hit the jack and lay behind it to pick up a valuable two points.

On mat 3 S. Archer, S. Foster and D. Phillips tasted defeat for the second time against V. Footer, D. Grey and J. Williamson 10-29. Knowing Sylvia, Shirl and Deb were going to be at their best to beat Banham's strongest block who beat them earlier in the season at home already found themselves 3-11 down after five ends conceding a 4,3 and a 4. After a calm period the onslought continued after eleven ends as Val at lead was consistant throughout and John at skip hardly missed anything all night as they picked up a four and a maximum to rub salt into the wounds as this is a match I'm sure the ladies would want to forget altough not playing too bad just got outplayed.

On mat 4 E. Barker, P. King and C. Mann lost to C. Smith, T. Blackburn and W. Francis 14-19. This again was another match that could of gone either way, a good start was had by Wymondham as they cruised into a 5-0 lead after just two ends. But the strong Banham triple held there nerve and went on to score the next five ends to go into a 6-5 lead after eight ends. From there the game was too close to call and as the game wore end both teams had strong heads on alternate ends. On end thirteen Mann was facing going five down but a very forceful forehand shot took all five Banham woods out to hold two which bought them back to lead 11-10. A three on end fifteen looked to give Wymondham the upper hand as the lead was increased to 14-10 with just three ends remaining. But the experienced Tony Blackburn at two had a steady game throughout and with Bill at skip getting stronger as the game progressed casued problems and really stuck the knife in on the last three ends where nine shots were conceded in the last three ends for a dissapointing result.

This is not a disastrous result as all that is required now is two 10-0 home wins against Watton and Forncett which will secure the league title even if we lose 10-0 at Connaught A on monday. But this is still not a certainty but how home form has been this season it is hard to see any other result.

Wymondham 10 (94) v Connaught B 0 (39) - 28-02-10

The fourth straight 10-0 home win takes Wymondham another step closer to the title as they go twelve points clear of second placed Connaught A with a game in hand. Out of the last four home match's Connaught B have probably been the stiffer opponenets but still lacked the quality to beat Wymondham on their own mats. First session on mat 1 saw P. Saunders, M. Fisher and S. Phillips beat P. Hambling, J. Winup and A. Marshall 19-7. A tight game was played by both teams but the home side had the upper hand most ends against Connaught's strongest block. With John reading the lines of the mat well for the away team was not enough as towards the end of the match resorted to firing which showed how tight and well Pat, Mary and Steve played. On mat 2 E. Barker, P. King and C. Mann beat R. Maddern, M. Utting and A. Rush 24-12. A comfortable win for the home team which saw Alison changed from skip to lead half way through the game for Connaught as they struggled to contain the Wymondham block. As soon as the home side had established a solid lead at 12-1 complacency started to set in but this was still a decent result.

Second session on mat 1 saw S. Archer, S. Foster and D. Phillips beat H. Winup, K. Lurcock and T. Marings 26-10. Another solid win with all the ladies playing at high standard as always. Connaught's skip cut many shots out and consecutive ends was facing going five and six down but did well to save as the home side could of easily of gone into the thirty's. On mat 2 M. Barker, M. Linsdell and B. Saunders beat L. Thurston, S. Hall and M. Eades 25-10. Although the scoreline refelcts a simple win for Wymondham they were in trouble after end eleven as they had dropped a five. They then looked like dropping another five on end thirteen but Brian's last wood cut out four and only went down one. Connaught's lead Len, previously an ex Wymondham player, had another good performance but this alone was not enough as Melvyn, Mark and Brian stepped it up towards the end of the match as they scored nine shots in the last five ends without reply. If Wymondham pick up decent points at Banham this Wednesday it would almost seal the league with three more games remaining with two of them at home.

Yaxham 4 (59) v Wymondham 6 (58) - 25-02-10

This was a crucial match for both teams, Wymondham looking for some decent away points to stretch their lead at the top of the table and Yaxham looking to make home advantage count and get back in the title race. But it was Wymondham who did the celebrating at the end of the night with their first win recorded at Yaxham in the club's history as Yaxham lose their sixth match of the season and looks like they will have to settle with at best second place.

First session on mat 1 saw M. Barker, M. Linsdell and B. Saunders lose to R. Secker, P. Wilson and O. Secker 10-21. A good start was made to the match for the away side as they took a 4-1 lead after four ends but then a collapse happened. Melvyn had a good game again but weight was the deciding factor in the Wymondham's block loss, a dropped 1,4,2 and 3 created a too bigger gap to close at 4-12. Mark went skip to try and claw the shots back but did so in litlle vain as Owen for Yaxham seized on most oppourtunities that came to him. This result was the deciding factor in the overall shots loss.

On mat 2 S. Archer, S. Foster and D. Phillips beat R. Flint, D. Cross and R. Harris 13-10. Again a good start was made for the away side after six ends going 6-4 up in a match they were never behind in. Sylvia, Shirl and Deb all had good periods in the game and deserved the win overall. The Yaxham triple also had good periods in the game but lacked consistancy which eventually cost them as not enough ends were won.

Second session on mat 1 saw P. Saunders, M. Fisher and S. Phillips beat B. Steed, G. Mash and M. Meachen 19-15. This match was not looking good for the Wymondham triple as after eleven ends were contemplating defeat at 7-13 down after eleven ends. But they doggedly came back and hit Yaxham with eleven shots in five ends to turn the game in their favour at 18-14 with two ends remaining. With the other match finished ages ago both teams knew what was needed with shots and with Wymondham holding one on the last end Steve couldn't make it two to draw overall shots and didn't try too hard as Yaxham had the majority of back woods but the win was the main thing and all played well especially towards the end of the match.

On mat 2 E. Barker, P. King and C. Mann beat A. Palgrave, C. Turner and J. Turner 16-13 in another epic match where Mann got his revenge for his defeat earlier at home in the season. For the third time of the night it was the away side that got off to a flyer going 5-0 up after four ends. Billie at lead had another amazing performance and keeps getting better with every match, likewise Peter played his part at times with some crucial woods. The game was still looking healthy after nine ends with the score at 10-3 but then the comeback came from the force that is the Palgrave and Turner combination that plays with each other throughout the season for Yaxham and East Tuddenham, who managed to bring the match level at 10-10 after thirteen ends. Chris "The Blazer" Mann was probably thinking deja vu time again but a two, three and a single on ends 14, 16 and 17 gave them a 16-12 lead. But the game was still not over as the Wymondham triple dug themselves in a hole and Mann found himself facing four down and with his last wood managed shot but John still had the game at his mercy if he could clip the jack across but just found a slight gap and only held a single for a very relieved Mann who has now got back to back victories against him at Yaxham.

Although overall shots were lost by one the team were just pleased to win what was a great match which lasted till 11pm! Newcomer's this season Billie and Melvyn have proved a real hit and continue to impress in every game as they and the rest of the team go home happy knowing this was a big result and chalking there first win at Yaxham. Way to go team!

Hingham A 2 (64) v Wymondham 8 (78) - 18-02-10

Another fine away performance against a tricky Hingham A side who have been in decent form of late but came up against a Wymondham side who have been in unstoppable form themselves. On the very swingy and straight mat 1 E. Barker, P. King and C. Mann beat J. Potton, J. Roache and M. White 25-15. The scoreline looked comfortable for the away side but far from it, they took a four on the first end but the away side hit back with a two then a three and from there the game was too tight to call. After the sixteenth end the away side were a shot up at 16-15 but the hammer blow for the home side came on the last two ends where they conceded a five and a four for a much relieved Mann. On mat 2 M. Barker, M. Linsdell and B. Saunders lost to P. Roache, B. Woods and J. Higgs 12-21. The Wymondham triple came up against Hingham's strongest triple and foung life hard as like most teams have who have played against them this season. Going four down after two ends but then bought the match back to just one shot after seven ends at 5-6. But then the home side stepped up a gear and shot into a 5-15 lead as the vistors had no reply. A change around happened as Mark went skip and Brian second they then managed a four then a two to just trail 11-15 but they couldn't keep up the pressure as John Higgs and co played better and deserved the win. On mat 3 S. Archer, S. Foster and D. Phillips beat C. Harris, A. Marshall and J. Prime 21-13. Again another strong performance from the ladies as they cruised into a 13-1 lead after six ends. A four and a single on ends twevle and thirteen extended their score to 21-5 but then conceded the last five ends to take the shine off the end result but still a very good win. On mat four P. Saunders, M. Fisher and S. Phillips beat J. Baker, E. Frary and J. Frary 20-15. A simmilar performance happened like on mat three where the Wymondham block shot into a 14-1 lead against another strong Hingham block who then hit back themsleves and after 15 ends were within touching distance at 14-11. The long jack seemed to be where Wymondham gained an advantage but as soon as they lost the Jack Jane soon put it short and this caused all sorts of problems for Wymondham as they completely lost it. Luckily a two and a four on ends sixteen and seventeen calmed the nerves as they saw out the game for another good win and performance. This is a big result as the remaining away fixtures are against the top three (Yaxham, Banham and Connaught A) and the first is next thursday at Yaxham where again confidence will be running high.

Wymondham 10 (103) v Carleton Rode 0 (33) - 14-02-10

It's been another good week for Wymondham reaching the final of the five pairs and now putting another big step towards the top of the league.

Home form all season has been strong and is getting stronger as Wymondham have now gone above the 100 shot mark in three consecuetive games. First session on mat saw P. Saunders, P. King and S. Phillips crush G. Coleman, B. Evans and A. Evans 33-6. The home side got off to a flyer going 11-0 up after four ends. Two five's on ends 12 and 13 boosted the score to 29-5 as Pat, Peter and Steve all played consistantly well. On mat 2 E. Barker, J. Sparham and C. Mann beat M. Baker, R. Lorn and R. Barker 20-9. Billie at lead had an exceptional game along with Jon at two but Mann still recovering from his illness probably played how he felt. Two no scoring ends on ends two and three where the home side were holding two's and three's somewhat stuttered the high scoring that could of been as Carleton Rode's skip played well throughout cutting many shots out. But more of an initiative could of been taken if Mann had played better and capitalized on chances but the never the less a decent result.

Second session on mat 1 saw M. Barker, M. Linsdell and B. Saunders beat K. Newby, J. Brown and T. Newby 22-14. This was quite a close game after eight ends as the away side held a two shot lead at 5-7. But a five, four and a two on ends 9,10 and 11 for the Wymondham triple put a healthy gap between the sides at 16-7. Brian played some good shots to quell any dangers posed by Terry at skip and with Melvin and Mark playing well on most ends also contributed to a good win in the end. On mat 2 M. Fisher, S. Foster and D. Phillips swept aside J. Davidson, M. Newby and R. Davidson 28-4. A very solid performance from all three players but Mary at times had the odd wood go astray but very pleasing as the away side could only manage to score on four ends which shows how solid every end was. The last four ends the home side scored a 4,3,3 and a 1for another crushing win. The team now go to Hingham A on thursday which will be tricky as the Hingham A team have picked up some decent results of late but we will go there with plenty of confidence.

Wymondham 10 (137) v Hingham "B" 0 (27) - 07-02-10

Yet again another exceptional home performance, all be it against the bottom side Hingham "B" where FIVE hot shots were recorded. But Hingham "B" have shown some form away especially against Connaught "A" earlier in the season where they took four points. The first session on mat 1 saw M. Barker, M. Linsdell and B. Saunders thrash D. Mylchrest, G. Short and R. Naish 32-6. As in all of the performances from Wymondham where they were completely in control and not really troubled. All showed some good shots and a five on end seven was there biggest score. On mat 2 M. Fisher, P. King and C. Mann smashed J. Adam, E. Tweed and R. Potton 37-8. Three hot shots were recorded in the match as the away triple tried all sorts of combinations to try and somewhat calm the onslaught but in little vain. When there lead went skip they managed four shots in five ends but conceded there third and final six on the last end for a massive win.

But the second session saw the biggest margin of win of the season so far on mat 1 for E. Barker, P. Saunders and S. Phillips where they blitzed apart J. Fennell, P. Coyens and B. Eaglen 37-6. The home side didn't get off to a good start after conceding three shots in the first three ends but as the game went on the home side went into cruise control and on end eight also recorded a hot shot to go 16-3 ahead after eight ends. Two fives and the last two ends made for an excellent result. On mat 2 S. Archer, S. Foster and D. Phillips combforatably beat O. Wilton, W. Tweed and P. Wawmes? 31-7. Again the start for the home side was slow but a five on end six propelled the home side and a series of two's throughout the match and the final hot shot in the afternoon completed the misery set on Hingham "B". For all the triples to concede less than ten shows how dominate the home side were and there professionalism. The team will now look forward to the 5 pairs semi final against Watton at Banham on wednesday.

Wymondham 10 (103) v Harling Recreation 0 (32) - 24-01-10

Another good home performance with a weakened team produced a couple of games that were closer than liked but still produced the wins required. First session on mat 1 saw E. Baker, M. Fisher and S. Phillips beat R. Buffery, P. Barsby and R. Buffery 25-11. An inform home team would of scored 30+ shots but Harling's skip produced a few good shots himself to keep scores low and managed to get eleven themselves which was dissapointing for captain Steve. Billie and Mary were inconsistant at times and when seen what they can do on a club night is frustrating. On mat 2 the best result of the afternoon was had with M. Baker, M. Linsdell and P. King hammering B. Barsby, R. Meek and A. Snelling 34-4. As soon as Melvin at lead got in the swing of things this then made for some big heads building up, and with Mark and Peter also playing well made a for a convincing win.

Second session on mat 1 saw the reliable triple of S. Archer, S. Foster and D. Phillips combforatably beat B. Potter, G. Palfrman and T. Murphy 29-4. Much like Peter's game where they only conceded on four ends, each singles, shows how much Haling had to fight for even a point and with all ladies playing well also made for a convincing win. The biggest dissapointment was on mat 2 where D. Durrant , T. Emms and C. Mann scraped a 15-13 win against C. Jones, E. Jones and B. Knappett. Arguably this was Harling's strongest triple but this still didn't excuse how poorly each player played. End four saw the home side pick up a three to go 4-3 up and was then looking to build on this but it never materialized as they then went 4-7 down after seven ends. Collectively the Harling block playing well but the lack of consistancy throughout the home side made for a frustrating game. A four, one and two on ends 14,15 and 16 changed the complextion of the game as the home side took the advantage to go 15-10 up. To say the home side managed to close out the game is a compliment to the Harling triple who gave it a good go and came close to a shock but the Wymondham triple played enough good shots to claim the match. Although this was a pleasing result some of the performances were poor but luckily this was against one of the bottom two clubs in the league respectfully.

Wymondham (73) 7 v Yaxham 3 (58) - 17-01-10

This was a big match for both teams and a 7-3 win is a good result for Wymondham against the current champs. The first session got off to a great start as on mat 1 T. Emms, M. Linsdell and B. Saunders beat B. Steed, P. Wilson and M. Meachen 22-9. A good start was made as after three ends were 7-0 up. This was proberbly Yaxham's weakest triple who only managed to score on five ends for a comprehensive result for the Wymondham side. On mat 2 S. Archer, S. Foster and D. Phillips beat R. Flint, D. Cross and R. Harris 16-11. A solid performance was had by the home side who didn't give a lot away. A 5 on end five gave them a 6-2 lead, but Yaxham brought it back to 8-6 after eleven ends. A two and three on ends fourteen and fifteen created a healthy lead at 14-7. A three on end sixteen was the best result Yaxham could muster as the home side looked comfortable throughout the match.

With Yaxham captain John Turner having selection problems ahead of the match he bought in county players Jean and Melly Woods to bolster the strength of the squad and hopefully get four points in the second half. They played with R. Wilson who went lead and Jean went two with Melly skip they played against P. Saunders, M. Fisher and S. Phillips. A positive start was made with a 3-0 lead after three ends but a drought of four scoreless ends after that meant the Yaxham triple shot infront at 3-10. A swap meant Pat went second and Mary lead, this made for a dramatic turn around as a 2, 4 and 3 saw them jump ahead 12-10 after ten ends. But Yaxham hit back with a four and then the Wymondham triple did the same and at end thirteen were back in front at 16-14. Melly and Steve were closely matched throughout the game and the end result of 18-18 was no great surprise but a hard fought point for both teams at that. On mat 2 D. Durrant, P. King and C. Mann lost to A. Palgrave, C. Turner and J. Turner 17-20. This was another disappointing result for Mann against Turner who had recently beat him in the county singles two weeks ago. It looked like Mann was going to get his revenge as after ten ends were 13-4 up. But Mann still has a bit to learn against Turner, who's experience told with two great 5's in the match which John executed perfectly. This dramtically changed the course of the game and after end fourteen the strong and experienced Yaxham triple were within touching distance at 17-14. The away side were getting stronger as the game went on and the last four ends scored six shots, for a gutted Mann who's unbeaten record this season was no more and was the first time he had lost at home for over two years. Never the less this is a good result and hopefully a 10-0 will beckon next sunday at home to Haling Rec.

Forncett 2 (43) v Wymondham 8 (90) - 12-01-10

With another long break away from bowls due to the adverse weather conditions it was good to get back to action and another fine away win at one of our bogey grounds. It was going to be interesting how both teams would play now that Forncett had new mats down at the start of the season and the answer was evident in the result.

The first session got off to a good start as on mat 1 P. Saunders, M. Fisher and S. Phillips beat A. Coleman, M. Boulter and T. Ottewell 21-11. An even start was made after four ends at 4-4 but a three and two on the next two ends made it 9-4. A five on end ten saw the game put to bed at 14-7 and the game was saw out from there with good performances from all the players. On mat 2 D. Durrant, P. King and C. Mann breezed to a 26-7 win over D. Rackham, J. Rumsby and D. Rumsby. Another solid all round performance which meant the home side only scored on five ends. The last six ends inflicted the damaged scoring fourteen shots.

Second session on mat 1 saw T. Emms, B. Saunders and M. Linsdell lose 8-19 to R. Humphreys, H. Humphreys and P. Lock. This undoubtedly was Forncett's strongest block on the night and with the Wymondham players not playing consistantly throughout the match meant the home side took control. A bright start was had though but a 4-0 lead after two ends was as good as it got. Brian changed to lead in a bid to change fortunes half way through but this made little impact as the Forncett players had the edge over the course of the match. On mat 2 S. Archer, S. Foster and D. Phillips blew away M. Boulter, E. Coleman and A. Aldridge 35-6. Sylvia was on fine form and backed up by Shirley anf Deb who's reading of the mat was first class, meant for a very combforatble win. The scoreline would of properbly of been more if not for Alan at skip for Forncett, who cut many shots down throughout the game. This is a good 8 points and a big improvement on recent results there, sunday will be another huge game at home to Yaxham, as long as the weather holds off!

Harling Recreational 0 (36) v Wymondham 10 (102) - 16-12-09

After a long break Wymondham finally got back to league action and got the perfect result away to Harling to send them top of the table by two points. The first session on mat 1 saw T. Emms, P. King and S. Phillips win 20-10 against B. Potter, T. Murphy and R. Fulcher. Like in most of tonights games where Wymondham were never really troubled once they got into the swing of things and a strong period between ends eight and fourteen where they picked up fourteen shots made for a solid win. On mat 2 D. Durrant, M. Fisher and C. Mann beat B. Barsby, R. Meek and A. Snelling 25-9. After a drought of four ends without a point and the score at 5-5 after eight ends, the away side never looked back as only two more ends were dropped after that, and a five on the last end sealed a convincing win.

Second session on mat 1 saw P. Saunders, S. Foster and D. Phillips win against R. Buffery, P. Lee and R. Buffery 25-12. The away side made a fantastic start, flying into a 14-0 lead after seven ends but the home side staged a slight comeback to make the scoreline a little respectable. On mat 2 M. Baker, B. Saunders and M. Linsdell ran riot against G. Pafframan, M. Cunningham and B. Knappett with a 32-5 win. This was a match that saw every player on the mat out class there oppenents and a maximum on end fourteen was well deserved, the home side were a bit unlucky at times but this couldn't take anything away from how well the Wymondham trio did. This was an all round good team performance like at Watton earlier in the season and improved from there six points they manged there last season.

Wymondham 8 (85) v Hingham "A" 2 (47) - 22-11-09

After a series of away games Wymondham got a chance to lead the Breckland league, looking for a big home win against Hingham A. The first session got off to flyer as on mat 1 S. Archer, S. Foster and D. Phillips blew away A. Marshall, I. Prime and J. Prime 29-5. A proffesional win for the home triple who were never really troubled apart from the last five ends where the away side scored four shots.

A simmilar story developed on mat 2 as T. Emms, P. King and C. Mann also swept aside J. Baker, J. Roache and M. White 27-9. A good result would of been a great result if in the last three ends the home side had not conceded seven shots! A great shot from the Blazer Mann for a maximum six on end fourteen wrapped a comforatble win though.

The second half on mat 1 saw P. Saunders, M. Fisher and S. Phillips edge past M. Potter, C. Harris and K. Thomas 17-16. The scoreline refelcts the performances from both triples. The weak link was Mary for the home side but Keith Thomas played well at skip for Hingham A to keep the game alive. With both leads matching each other, it boded for a tight game but Wymondham just snatched it.

Another tight game was being played on mat 2 as E. Tolver, B. Saunders and M. Linsdell lost to P. Roache, E. Frary and J. Frary 12-17. A dropped 4 on the first end didn't help Mark's first competitive game at skip for Wymondham. Eddie had a sterling performance at lead but this alone was not enough. As Jane Frary skip for Hingham A produced better shots than Mark when it came to grabbing an initiative. After trailing 1-6 after three ends the home side hit back and then lead 11-7 after nine ends. But then a drought occured where the Wymondham triple could muster a one on end sixteen, but hopefully this will be a good learning curb for Mark who did have some good shots but enough of them to win this match. Now the team will have a very tricky tie this tuesday in the Norwich cup at Woodbastwick.

Connaught "B" 6 (69) v Wymondham 4 (50) - 17-11-09

Without Sylvia or Mark for this match Wymondham knew what they were up against with a much stronger Connaught B side this season and so this proved as they fell to there first defeat of the season. Connaught's strongest triple made up of P. Hambling, J. Winup and A. Marshall took on M. Barker, B. Saunders and P. King on mat 1. As this was Melvin's first competitve match this season it took a while for him to get into the match and with his opposite number Peter bowling to a high standard as always already put Wymondham on the backfoot. Brian likewise found it hard to get to grips with the mat as the preasure was put on him to get woods in the head as John for Connaught at two had another good performance. Peter for Wymondham at skip saved even more shots being scored against them, but a scoreline of 26-9 was fully deserved to Connaught.

Mat 2 saw E. Tolver, S. Foster and D. Phillips win a dramatic last end match against R. Maddern, Phil. King and A. Rush. As in so many of Deb's games this season, which has seen her fly into a big lead, but then only to see it dwindle away. This happened again as after seven ends the Wymondham triple held a 9-2 lead only for it to be evapourated as the score's were tied 11-11 after sixteen ends. A single picked up by them on the sevententh saw Alison have the last wood on the last end, facing two down on the mat, with a forceful backhand shot, which she caught perfectly, saw the jack trail to there wood only for deb's wood to roll round it and fall to take shot for a tight win of 13-11.

Second session on mat 1 saw D. Durrant, T. Emms and C. Mann beat H. Winup, S. Hall and J. Hazell. The scoreline of 22-11 for Wymondham was caused by some fine shots played by skip Mann during the course of the game. Daphne and Tony both had good games and there woods on the mat at times made life easier for Mann. Heather at lead for Connaught played better as the match went on but there second and skip both had good woods but at different stages of the match which caused them to swap after eleven ends, but this made little impact.

Mat 2 sealed the six match points for Connaught B as V. Barber, M. Eades and R. Ramm beat P. Saunders, M. Fisher and S. Phillips 6-21. This was the triples first defeat of the season which saw Mary not at her best like she had been in previous games with her weight letting her down most times. Sometimes the luck for the Wymondham triple was not there but a solid performance from the Connaught block made sure of the big win.

This was not the result Wymondham were looking for but Connaught grinded the results out to get the deserved win, with there improved squad. Wymondham will now have to dig deep to get ten points against Hingham A at home on sunday to keep in contention at the top of the league with Yaxham, Banham and Forncett who are all looking strong this season.

Carleton Rode 4 (54) v Wymondham 6 (69) - 09-11-09

Looking to improve from last season's 8-2 win at Carelton Rode, Wymondham's second half performance cost them picking up the extra four points needed to stay in touch with runaway leaders Yaxham. The first session went well as on mat 1, T. Emms, P. King and C. Mann romped to a 29-4 win against S. Briggs, O. Smith and A. Carver. With Tony struggling to get his weight on the sluggish mats, Mann's cleverness of the short jack every end they won paid diverdence and with Peter keeping things tight meant Mann only had to consolidate what they had most ends for a convincing win. Mat 2 saw P. Saunders, M. Fisher and S. Phillips beat L. Perins, R. Lorn and B. Evans 18-13. This was another good win which saw the away side breeze into a 9-1 lead after five ends but the home side came back into it and were only three behind going into the last end but a two for the Wymondham triple sealed the win where all played well.

Second session did not go as planned as on mat 1, D. Durrant, B. Saunders and E. Tolver lost to P. Rush, G. Coleman and T. Newby 14-17. A good start from both sides saw the game tied at 5-5 after six ends but the home side had the edge most ends and flew into 7-16 lead after twelve ends. A succession of 1's there after still made little difference to the score but a good effort never the less. Mat 2 also saw a shock defeat for S. Archer, S. Foster and D. Phillips against M. Baker, M. Newby and R. Baker going down 8-20. Hopefully this will be a "blip" for the triple as they did not perform well throughout the game. This was proberbly beacuse neither player had good ends together or the heads were too open most of the time, which produced ends that the Carleton Rode skip could easily attack with his weighted woods which he played most ends and got results with most of the time. Overall this is a dissapointing result and one the team will look to improve on in the other away matches coming up.

Hingham "B" 2 (51) v Wymondham 8 (85) - 02-11-09

Wymondham's trip to the newly formed Hingham "B" team resulted in a good 8-2 points win. The two points that were "dropped" came from the very dodgy and tricky mat 1 where D. Durrant, B. Saunders and P. King lost to S. Throp, G. Tuttle and K. Buppy 14-21. The away side made a confident start though with the scoreline 4-4 after four ends but then a run of six scoreless ends saw them 4-14 down. This caused Daphne to go skip with Peter at lead, but this still made little difference and fell even further adrift at 7-20 after fifteen ends. A maximum on end sixteen saw the scoreline make better reading on what is an awful mat to play on in truth. No great escape this time.

Mat 2 saw T. Emms, M. Linsdell and C. Mann beat B. Egglam, D. Mychrecot and M. Throp 18-11. This was a combfortable win for the Wymondham triple making a good start going 15-4 up after nine ends but the Hingham block hit back and scored on six of the remaining eight ends for a respectable scoreline.

Mat 3 saw the biggest win for P. Saunders, M. Fisher and S. Phillips beating O. Wilton, J. Fennel and B. Rowe 32-5. A convincing scoreling which underlines how well Mary works with Pat along with Steve at skip who completely dominated this match against his opposite number, who with most of the Hingham "B" squad are vastly inexperienced at this level for the time being.

Mat 4 also saw a good win for E. Tolver, S. Foster and D. Phillips who beat G. Tweed, L. Srort and S. Gibbs 21-14. Good to see the father and daughter relationship again which saw them fly into a 9-1 lead after five ends. A dip in the middle part of the game saw the lead evapourate to 13-13 after fourteen ends but the away side soon pulled away again scoring eight shots in four ends for a pleasing result.

After Hingham "B"'s last game where they conceded 119 shots to Connaught "B" away, I'm sure the Hingham team will be relieved they were not met with a more forcefull performance from Wymondham, who themselves were not on par and as captain Steve Phillips pointed out Wymondham will have to perform much better if they look to get the same result against there "A" team.

Watton 0 (38) v Wymondham 10 (80) - 23-10-09

Wymondham's first 10-0 at Watton was a well deserved and crucial one that puts them in a strong posistion already in the league. With Watton having four mats down it proberbly worked to Wymondham's advantage as the team spirit and togetherness shone through with the whole team which got them the ten valuble points. Mat 1 saw S. Archer, S. Foster and D. Phillips beat D. Quadling, Di. Quadling and M. Dibble 13-9. This was a tight game and the four shots Wymondham picked up in the first end proved to be vital as they never went behind in the match. After eleven ends the score was 7-7 which was the closest Watton got to keeping in touch as they dropped five shots in four ends which then made the score 12-7 after 15 ends and then the away side saw the match out from there. David, Di and Maggie all played well but Sylvia, Shirl and Deb had the hunger and skill to win after there two dissapointing results at home and this result will be a welcome one for them.

Mat 2 saw T. Emms, M. Linsdell and C. Mann win against B. Pointer, R. Harvey and J. Hunter 23-5. This Watton triple on paper looked quite strong but that wasn't the case as a lot of loose woods from the home side were made to pay as Tony, Mark and Chris all had superb woods. After seven ends the away triple stormed into a commanding 9-0 lead, mid way through the game was where Mann did the damage scoring eleven shots in five ends to make the score 20-1 after 13 ends. Watton then played a few a strong ends but this was not enough as the away side had pretty much cruised it.

This was much the same story on mat 3 as P. Saunders, M. Fisher and S. Phillips beat J. Todd, D. Braham and M. Hunter 26-10. An overall very strong performance from Pat, Mary and Steve which was good to see as after five ends were 11-0 up, Mary is an ever improving player and along with the experienced Pat beside her guided her well through the game which paid off as after 11 ends found themselves 19-2 up. With Daphne replacing Margaret at skip for Watton half way through the match, this made little impact though as a four on end 16 and a two on end 17 completed the big win for them.

"THE GREAT ESCAPE" was what was written on the scorecard after the match on mat 4 as D. Durrant, P. King and B. Saunders pulled of a tremendous 18-14 win against J. Clarke, P. Crockett and T. Crockett. The first three ends the away side conceded, but only dropped 1's. But this was enough for Brian to swap with Peter so he then became skip. At first the change did not work on the tricky mat 4 and actually found themselves 1-13 down after nine ends which seemed an impossibilty to claw back from but claw back they did! Daphne, Brian and Peter would of felt hard done by anyway that they were that far behind as a couple of the ends were holding five's but the experienced Terry Crockett came into save twice and played well himself. But as the game wore on Wymondham's ability and strength came through as the preasure put on the home side told as they crumbled and the Wymondham triple went on to score an incredible 17 shots in 8 ends for a dramatic turn a round.

These sort of performances are a massive boost for the team and a reassuring one which will put them in good stead for there next four consecutive away games, where one of them is at Watton again in the County Cup!

Wymondham 7 (66) v Connaught "A" 3 (55) - 19-10-09

Another 7-3 home win completed a good nights bowling for Wymondham picking up seven valuable points against title rivals Connaught "A". The first session started off with P. Saunders, B. Saunders and S. Phillips beating M. Parsons, D. Liles and S. Bragg. Pat at lead had great game, having more than 70% chalkers throughout the game. This obviously caused all sorts of problems for the away side with Brian and Steve also pilling on the preasure, caused Connaught to change half way through with Derek at skip. With the score 17-2 after ten ends, Connaught then picked up some form and scored ten shots out of the remaining eight ends to finish 20-13. The other match in the session saw S. Wood, P. King and A. Wood lose to E. Oatway, B. Adcock and B. Oatway. This was a strong Connaught block who's experience played a part in winning this game. Elaine at lead for Connaught played well and Bill at two also had good shots which made it hard for the Wymondham triple to get into any rhythm. But county skip Bob Oatway had another sterling performance to quell any danger the home side might of posed. He limited the home side to scoring on only six ends with the end result of 8-19 was justified.

The second session saw E. Tolver, M. Linsdell and C. Mann convincingly beat D. Adcock, S. Parsons and R. Wells. After just five ends the away side had to change round with Sylvia swapping with Ray as they found themselves 9-0 down. As the game progressed it didn't get any better for Connaught as after eleven ends were 19-3 adrift. Ray then went lead who had his best part of the game but the home side were just too strong and finished the match winning 23-8. The other match in the session saw the familliar triple of S. Archer, S. Foster and D. Phillips draw against G. Wilcox, O. Allen and L. Fallows. Simillar to there last match where the home side took a commanding 9-1 lead after five ends, but the experienced and knowledegable county skip Lee Fallows knew they were not getting anywhere fast and decided to go at lead with Ollie now at skip. This made for a dramatic turn-a-round as a three, two and one on ends 6,7 and 8 pulled the match to within Connaught's grasp again at 9-7. Ollie had a superb game again and has been putting in some of the best county performances this season as well and this continued as a great shot to put the jack into the ditch for four put Connaught to within one shot at 14-13 after fifteen ends. Connaught required one shot to draw the match and Ollie duely obliged to secure a valuble and well deserved draw at 15-15. Since joining Connaught Ollie has become a vital part of there team and is bound to have a successful career ahead of him at club, county and maybe even England level in the future, if he keeps putting in performances like tonight where the reading of the mat from him was first class. But this is another pleasing result which Wymondham will look to build on at Watton on Friday.

Wymondham 7 (77) v Banham 3 (51)

Wymondham kicked off there Breckland league campaign with a slightly dissapointing 7-3 home win against a strong Banham side. The first session saw P. Saunders, M. Fisher and S. Phillips win against C. Smith, R. Dunning and T. Blackburn. A good start from Banham saw them pick up a three on the first end but this was as good as it got for the away side as the next nine out of eleven was won by Wymondham, as after 12 ends the score was 14-5. Tony at skip for Banham lacked the power and precision most ends but found some form towards the end as they scored four shots on the last six ends to finish 16-10. The other mat saw D. Durrant, B. Saunders and P. King draw against V. Hambling, J. Gooday and J. Blackburn. The away side made a great start and lead 9-2 after nine ends. But a spirited comeback from the home side saw them hit three 4's in four ends for a 14-11 lead after 13 ends. The home side though failed to see the game out as they conceded 1's on the last three ends for a 15-15 finish.

Second session saw T. Emms, M. Linsdell and C. Mann sweep aside E. Smith, M. Seagar and R. Kerrison 32-7. This was the best display by Wymondham but did not start off well as after four ends were 4-1 down. But as soon as the home side got into a stride Banham couldn't cope and with good shot selections by Mann throughout the game against his opposite number which showed the difference as in six ends racked up 17 shots for a 18-4 scoreline after ten ends. Young Mark Linsdell played some good shots at number two as the home side produced a six on end fifteen to complete the rout. The second match in the session saw S. Archer, S. Foster and D. Phillips lose to V. Footer, D. Grey and J. Willamson 14-19. This was by far the strongest block Banham had and this showed as Val Footer at lead had an impressive game but had to, to beat Sylvia which was where the Banham block secured most ends as there number two backed up along with John who also had a good game at skip produced good shots when needing to. The home side though made a good atart with a 6-0 lead after three ends. But when the Banham block found the mat and lines they then stepped up a gear and produced a 5 on end 4 and contained the strong home triple. Sylvia, Shirley and Debbie all played well but found there competators on the day just too strong. After ten ends Banham were 10-9 up and then a two, one and one on ends 11,12 and 13 saw there lead increase to 9-14. End 17 was the final blow where the away scored four, for the match to finish 14-19.

This result leaves Wymondham in compentant mood as they know if Banham have the same side throughout the season will be a match for many home and away. The results at home for Wymondham will have to improve though if they want to compete at the top with there next game against Breckland league giants Connaught "A"!
