2009
The all Wymondham and Norfolk (1) outfit of Debbie Phillips, Steve Phillips and Chris Mann managed to get the semi-finals in the nationals at Kettering on Sunday the 5th of April. This was there first taste of the Nationals after managing to qualify by winning the Norfolk triples this season. The group stage saw them playing against the Essex (2) triple of B. Mouketti, C. Burgess and B. Hedges who are all England players. The Wymondham triple adapted better to the mat and punished the triple when they failed to take advantage of various chances given to them. They went on to win 11-3. They then played West Mids (3) and then North Yorkshire where they also played consistently well and won both games by big margins. The last 32 draw saw them play Dorset (1) where they won 7-6 in a close game where the Norfolk triple never lost the lead and managed to keep it. In the last 16 they where drawn against Hampshire (1) where yet again the Norfolk triple never lost the lead and went through to the quarter finals. They then had to play Hampshire (2) which was to be there toughest game yet where with four ends to go where 7-4 down. A two on end 6 and singles on ends 7 and 8 then made it 8-7 to the Norfolk triple. Last end saw Mann with his last wood, was 2 down and managed to draw perfectly on the wood at the back. At the time this was not shot but was second untill there wood fell on Mann's last wood to win a measure were only a 1mm gap was the difference. The semi-final was against West Mids (1) where they were out-classed by some phenomanal drawing and heavy shots by skip Follis. The score of 11-3 didnt justify how well the Norfolk triple played but the West Mids skip was the difference between the two sides. A great achievement for the Wymondham triple.
