Wymondham & Halvergate four clinch county title.
Wymondham's Debbie and Steve Phillips and Chris Mann with David Lamb's Halvergate (pictured) lifted the county fours title at Lakeside Country Club, Lyng on Sunday 25th October. The Wymondham and Halvergate four didn't get off to a good start losing 4-8 to Bradwell. But then after that the quality and skill of the four soon showed and went on an unbeaten run to the final. They beat Kirby Bedon's Shirley and Joe Brown and Gerald Chilvers with George Clarke's Hevingham in there group 10-3 and this was enough to see them as group winners. In the quarter finals they beat B. Oatway's four and then in the semi finals out played Kirby Bedon's four time winning block 13-1 and so not needing to play the last end. The final was against the team they beat in the group stage and knew this was going to be a much closer match and so it proved as going into the last end were only 5-4 up, but a two on last end sealed a 7-4 win for the Wymondham and Halvergate block.
Breckland league action for Wymondham saw them pick up another two wins. The first was beating title rivals Connaught "A" 7 - 3 at home. The first session saw P. Saunders, B. Saunders and S. Phillips win 20-13. But S. Wood, P. King and A. Wood lost to Connaught and county skip B. Oatway who had another sterling performance winning 19-8 with his triple. Second session saw E. Tolver, M. Linsdell and C. Mann achieve another big home win of 23-8. The other match in session saw S. Archer, S. Foster and D. Phillips draw 15-15. County skip L. Fallows swapped with young county star Ollie Allen for Connaught who found themselves 9-1 down after five ends. But Ollie had a superb game at skip to see a well earned draw for his team. Wymondham's second match in the week saw a brilliant team performance where they took all ten points at Watton for the first time. Mat 1 saw S. Archer, S. Foster and D. Phillips win a close match 13-9 against M. Dibble's block. Mat 2 saw T. Emms, M. Linsdell and C. Mann sweep aside J. Hunter's triple 23-5. Mat 2 was a similliar story where P. Saunders, M. Fisher and S. Phillips romped to a 26-10 win against M. Hunter's block. "The Great Escape" was achieved on mat 4 as D. Durrant, P. King and B. Saunders beat T. Crockett's triple 18-14. This was a brilliant result as the away side were starring at defeat after being 1-13 down after nine ends. But when the away side changed and Peter King went skip this was when they put the preasure on the home side and duely crumbled as the Wymondham triple scored 17 shots in eight ends for a dramatic turn a round. That result currently puts them second in the Breckland league behind Yaxham.

New season, new look.
Wymondham short mat bowls club have already enjoyed some sucess before the start of the Breckland league season with the team winning the Hingham challenge trophy in September (pictured). With skips Chris Mann and Debbie Phillips both having 100% records for the day, Wymondham finished top with 127 shots with Watton second with 97 shots. Hingham finished third with Diss last respectfully. This was also a chance for most of the squad to wear there new polo shirts which C. Mann had worked on to achieve before the league season started and have recieved good comments from various other clubs. This included Banham who were the first team to play against Wymondham in the Breckland league this season. The home side made a good start with P. Saunders, M. Fisher and S. Phillips beating C. Smith, R. Dunning and T. Blackburn 16-10. This was a confident win for Wymondham which never saw them troubled and restricted the away side to only winning seven of the eighteen ends. The second match of the first session saw D. Durrant, B. Saunders and P. King draw with V. Hambling, J. Gooday and J. Blackburn. The away side made a great start with a 9-2 lead after nine ends but a spirited come back from the home side saw them score three 4's in four ends to see them go 14-11 up after 13 ends. But the home side failed to see out the game and in the end had to be content with 15-15 draw. Second session saw T. Emms, M. Linsdell and C. Mann sweep aside E. Smith, M. Seagar and R. Kerrison 32-7 this was a good all round performance and an encouraging one for youngster Mark Linsdell who played well as a second along side Chris Mann at skip who was at his usual high standard. The other game in the session saw S. Archer, S. Foster and D. Phillips lose to V. Footer, D. Grey and J. Williamson. This was a match that after three ends looked like the home side was going to run away with as they lead 6-0. But as Banham triple got to grips with the mat they hit back with a 5 on the next end and managed to restrict the strong Wymondham block. A four on end 17 was the final blow as the Wymondham triple lost 14-19. The final result of 7-3 (77-51) is one Wymondham will look to improve upon as they come up against Breckland league giants Connaught "A" next Monday which is also at home.
