Preliminary Round.

Wymondham 4 (54) v Thorpe Marriott "B" 4 (50) - 21st May.
For this game the Wymondham squad was some what weakened with most of the first team players at Felixstowe in the summer club championships. The first session got off to a bad start with both blocks going down 9-15. Second session saw a revival as S. Wood, P. King and A. Wood put in a 14-11 win, which meant the other Wymondham block had to win by 10 to progress. This happened in impressive fashion with S. Archer, S. Foster and E. Tolver winning 22-9, a very strong middle sector where two 3's and a 4 helped them to go through.

First Round.

Wymondham 4 (62) v Watton Yellow 4 (45) - 13-07-09

Wymondham were saved the blushes after a close encouter where they edged out league two side Watton Yellow on shot difference. The first session on mat 1 saw a confident display by C. Mann with P. King and B. Saunders as they picked up a six on the first end to win by a combfortable 20 shots to 6 gainst M. Dibble's block. Mat 2 saw a shock win for B. Dibble's triple as they just beat S. Archer, S. Foster and D. Phillips 16-17. The last six ends saw a comeback from the home side as after 11 ends they were 17-7 down. Second session again saw skip Mann's block with P. King and S. Phillips beat B. Dibble's triple 14-8. But again D. Phillips with P. Saunders and S. Foster failed to register a win as they were beaten by B. Davies triple 12-14 as M. Dibble swapped to play second which was a winning formula for them. The two deafeats for the home side were very tight as they had more than enough shots to secure there place in the second round at home to fellow Div 1 side Thorpe Marriott "A" where they will no doubt have to improve if they are to progress to the semi's.

Second Round.

Wymondham 8 (69) v Thorpe Marriott "A" 0 (26) - 27-07-09

From the dissapointment at home to First Bus yesterday, Wymondham were back on form and from this performance look good to make there three remaining home games in the league very promising. The first session saw P. King, S. Phillips and C. Mann breeze past T. Frost, T. Redwood and K. Frost 17-5 this was a much improved performance from yesterday with Peter, Steve and Chris all playing together well and Chris at skip always putting the long jack in made it difficult for the away side who just couldnt keep up with the pace. The other mat saw a simmilar perfrormance from P. Saunders, S. Foster and D. Phillips although the away side put up more resistance, the home side always looked in control wining 13-7 against S. Redwood, P. Knights and W. Hoggan. Second session saw no changes to either sides as the home captain Steve left Sylvia and Brain "on the bench" and this saw just the same dominance from the home side as they continued to produce the better bowls as the away side just couldnt master the mats the same as the home side. This produced a resounding 22-5 win for P. King, S. Phillips and C. Mann gainst W. Hoggan's block and a maximum six on end six for P. Saunders, S. Foster and D. Phillips saw them win 17-9. This is a great result and one that will hopefully install confidence for the big day sunday in the E.S.M.B.A club championships at Rugby.

Semi Final

Wymondham 8 (93) v Hingham Blue 0 (31) - 06-08-09

Wymondham booked there place in the final of the summer cup with an impressive 8-0 win over division three side Hingham Blue. The gulf in class of the sides was pretty evident as on mat 1 P. Saunders, P. King and C. Mann won by a massive 34 shots to 2 over M. Groombridge, P. Groombridge and A. Marshall. This match was very one sided and just showed the difference between league one and league three bowling as Pat, Peter and Chris picked up four 4's, one 5 and five 2's for a comprehensive win. On mat 2 S. Phillips, S. Foster and D. Phillips snatched a 15-13 win against P. Roach, B. Woods and J. Higgs. After ten ends the home side were looking comfortable with 9-5 lead but this was quickly wiped out as the next two ends went to the away side with a three and a four which made the score after twelve ends 9-12. But the home side hit back on the next two ends picking up two three's for the score to read 15-12 after fourteen ends. The last end went to the away side who could score only one for a good comeback for the homeside. Second session saw the same dominance from the home side as on mat 1 B. Saunders replaced S. Phillips at lead with S. Foster and D. Phillips as they romped to a 24-4 win against W. Roach, B. Goombridge and A. Marshall. This was again a simmilar performance from the first game on mat 1 as the away side just couldnt adapt to the line and weight and the home side made them pay. On mat 2 P. Saunders, P. King and C. Mann beat P. Roach, B. Woods and J. Higgs 20-12. The away side made a good start with a 5-1 lead after five ends but failed to score on the next four ends as they found themselves 10-5 down with a five conceaded on end eight which was unfortunate for skip John. Two fours on ends eleven and thirteen made the score combfortable. Captain John Higgs had a good nights bowling and nearly won his first game but accuracy was lacking with his heavy woods at times on his second match but was pleased that a Breckland league club was in the summer cup final, where it will be played at Thorpe Marriott on tuesday the 25th August against Kirby Bedon "A" or Hevingham.

Final

Wymondham 2 (41) v Kirby Bedon "A" 6 (54) @ Thorpe Marriott - 25-08-09

Kirby Bedon "A" completed the incrediable treble which has seen them win the first national club competition, there tenth league win and now the summer cup. The first session was all Kirby's as L. Chilman, T. Goldsmith and S. Goldsmith beat P. King, S. Phillips and C. Mann. Already facing an uphill challenge as after five ends found themselves 1-9 adrift, Selwyn at skip bowled well and dealt with most trouble that Wymondham caused and saw the game out with an 11-19 win. S. Archer, S. Foster and D. Phillips likewise lost to J. Watson, J. Hewitt and P. Watson. The game was "nip and tuck" most of the way through as after eleven ends the score was tied at 11-11, but the Wymondham triple failed to score on the last four ends and ended up losing 11-16. B. and P. Saunders came in for the second sesion and this saw an improvement as neither of the blocks lost. P. Saunders, S. Phillips and C. Mann drew against J. Watson, J. Hewitt and P. Watson. Overall the Wymondham triple played the better but Phil at skip had a great evenings bowling and saved many times during the match which lead to an 11-11 draw. S. Archer, B. Saunders and D. Phillips likewise drew against L. Chilman, T. Goldsmith and S. Goldsmith. With there being two dead ends during the match they had only played twelve ends when it was already gone past 10pm. As the match was tied at 8-8 both teams called it quits and Kirby were presented the trophy to cap of a great summer league campaign for them, Wymondham can also be pleased with there performances this season as they will still be playing in division 1 next season and hopefully another cup run.
